Ezúttal a kalandos Robin Hood történet túláradóan vidám átirata kerül terítékre. Mel Brooks, a legendás nevettető legjobb formájában ragadja meg Robin Hood alakját. Hősünk tömlöcbe kerül a keresztesháborúkba mentében, és mire kiszabadul, családját majd vagyonát is elveszti. A gyönyörű szűz, Marian iránti szerelme viszont új hitet ad neki az úri túlkapások elleni harcban: maga köré gyűjti a Sherwood-i erdőbe hűséges csirkefogó társait, és örömmel tör borsot a trónkövetelő János herceg orra alá. Szerelmét elrabolják, de mindenki kedvenc szélhámosa kissé komolytalanul mégis visszavág.
